What skill(s) have you honed from your volunteer experience with MPI?

MPI has given me the opportunity to improve my project management, prioritization, delegation and mentoring skills. Mentoring others, managing teams of volunteers and delegating were not part of my regular job at the time so volunteering for MPI provided an outlet for me to really develop these valuable skills. Being involved in MPI-WI has been such a blessing to me both professionally and personally in my development.

MPI has helped me to develop my leadership skills. Being the Vice President of Communications this past year and working with the directors on my team helped me improve my delegation, communication and problem solving skills.

What skill(s) have you honed from your volunteer experience with MPI?

Volunteering for MPI-WI has allowed me to expand my abilities and do things I had never done before that help me with my career. From public speaking, meeting planning (a new experience for me!) and serving on the MPI-WI board, I have been able to grow with these experiences to gain greater insights into our industry and learn from other members serving the chapter with me.

How has volunteering for MPI-WI helped me?

The best thing about volunteering for MPI-WI is the variety of experiences available to me. I have learned how to edit a magazine, worked on a regional conference committee with other MPI chapters, organized monthly meetings, assisted with the CMP Prep Days course revamp and now lead the social media and website efforts for our Chapter. This has made me stronger both personally and professionally, and I am now a better planner because of it!

What skill(s) have you honed from your volunteer experience with MPI?

MPI has helped me brush up my leadership skills which helped my education teams be successful. It has also taught me that I can’t do everything on my own, and that I need to delegate to my teams. This has helped me become a better leader and think more about the overall picture. MPI has also helped me get out of my shell and meet people I probably wouldn’t have met otherwise. I have created some great friendships out of this organization as well as some great industry relationships.

What skill(s) have you honed from your volunteer experience with MPI?

I have learned that teamwork is the key to success. You cannot do everything that needs to be done on your own, and you need your team members for the chapter to be successful as a whole.

What skill(s) have you honed from your volunteer experience with MPI?

I have really improved my networking skills. Before MPI it was difficult for me to approach people at events because I never know what I had in common with others. While with other MPI members, I know that others have a passion for the meeting industry just like me and that leads to more conversation. That practice lead me to feel more comfortable networking at other events as well.

How has volunteering for MPI-WI helped me?

Being a volunteer for MPI-WI allows me to work closely with my peers from across the chapter and to get to know them better. It also gives me insight on the inner workings of our chapter. As for my professional development, I use existing skills in new ways.

How has volunteering for MPI-WI helped me?

I had previously held a position on the Board of Directors with the Greater Midwest Chapter PCMA and found it to be an extremely positive experience. I was hopeful that securing a board of director position with the Wisconsin Chapter of MPI would provide another wonderful experience, while allowing me the opportunity to share my knowledge of many years in the industry, as well as developing great relationships with the MPI-WI members.

How has volunteering for MPI-WI helped me?

Simply stated, you get what you give. The time I have invested volunteering for MPI in various capacities over the years has paid me back tenfold! The partnerships I have with suppliers, education received while working with other planners and the blessing of many, many friends, all part of the MPI family are just a few of the things I get from being a part of MPI-WI.

How has volunteering for MPI-WI helped me?

Volunteering for MPI-WI has helped me in more ways than I could probably explain. I was highly active in MPI-WI when I was working in the hotel industry and it really helped me grow into the person I am today. It allows you to work as a team and learn from each other while providing you with lifelong friendships. Giving back is so self-rewarding; you are able to help others while growing together. It is a “no-brainer” to volunteer and be more active in the things you are passionate about.

How has volunteering for MPI-WI helped me?

Volunteering for MPI-WI has allowed me to connect one-on-one with other dedicated members in MPI. When I joined MPI, I only knew a few other people in the organization. I started volunteering by selling raffle tickets, and it gave me the perfect reason to step in and introduce myself to other members at the monthly meetings. Volunteering through the Golf Outing my first year launched me right into working with many of the Board Members and getting to connect with so many other people I had never met before!

How has volunteering for MPI-WI helped me?

Volunteering with MPI-WI has helped me to better understand this industry and the importance of growing your network - not just on a professional level but on a personal one as well. Being a part of the MPI-WI team has provided me opportunities to break out of my comfort zone and test my abilities as a meeting and event professional. It means a lot to have a board of passionate people who support you and truly want you to succeed. This network of support is what helps keeps this chapter strong, and I'm proud to be involved.
